Tavern on the Green.
Monica and I finished our NY adverntures Friday June 30 with a lovely meal at Tavern on the Green.
Again, we lucked out with pre-fix menu and were not disapointed. The Barbaques Roast Pork Tenderloin was good and I got some New York Cheese Cake as well (however, Butter’s meal was far more impressive). With a little trial and error, I bet I could replicate the entree at home… not so with Butter’s entree… their sause was too amazing. The creme brulee was excelent (yes, we ordered an addition dessert to split). I particually apprecitated that it was prepaired is a shallow bowl, meaning more of the broiled sugar goodness on top ๐ With the beatuiful atmosphere of the Cheastnut Room and the good meal, I would definatly be willing to visit Tavern on the Green again for a special occasion.
On our way to Times Square, we just had to stop in Williams Sonoma to admire all the fine kitchenwears that will one day be mine! I did leave with a fabulous blue apron that was on sale for less than $10, cant beat that ๐
Times Square Brewery
Monica did not get a chance to stop at the Times Square Brewery after her Lion King matanee (the theatre was just next door!) so we swung on by for a cold beer. I tried their Dunkel, a chocolate caremel dark lager… maybe sounds odd but was actually quite good. The kicker is that Monica and I sat at the bar (which BTW was playing music that reminded us of a very CHEESEY wedding, we could only hope Heath would have more taste for his) and in the middle of our drinks, a man comes up to the bar between us and orders 3 BUD LIGHTs! Nowhere outside of St Louis should one EVER walk into a brewery and attempt to order a Bud Light… if I ran the world, no one would ever order a Bud Light period if they expected to walk away with a shred of dignity. I of course commented as such to Monica, not realising the man was still behind me. We had to restrain ourselves from laughing with the girl behind the bar had to appoligise to the man and say “we do not serve bud light, only our beers that we brew on sight.” She should have just escorted him to the front door ๐
The Mile Square Bar and Grill
After picking up Monica’s luggage and briefly touring Ziff Davis Media after hourse, we hopped the PATH to Hoboken NJ. I currently reside in this small (about a mile square) town just across the river in NYC… so after a bit of packing we head out to the bars, appropriately starting at The Mile Square. Right away we see the (1/2 price martini all night” sign… oh yes. It turned into a very lovely evening, especially the bar was completely free of any gross, creepy, skeevy characters… the range was actually normal-attractive people! And the music was good, so why leave and take chances somewhere else!? My only fear was drinking so many maritnis would turn me into a New Yorker, oh dear. I was impressed with the presentation and granishs of each martini and fell in love with the carmel apple.
McDonalds
It’s 2am in Hoboken, the bars are closing, and there is a 24 hr McDonalds across the street. Not as glamarous as our other food adventures, but a late night snack never hurt anyone.
After a walk back to the apartment, cleaning up and packing some more, we make it to bed around 4am ish, and still manage to get our butts up and on a bus in NYC at 9am to get to DC!
Monica
you forgot to mention that the entire reason we ordered another dessert @ TotG was because your fat friend was on her standard Creme Brulee diet! damn, that WAS good…
and omg. yeah. for reals. ordering Bud Light anywhere period, let alone a freaking specialty BREWERY??? seriously. seriously! who throws a shoe?!
